Bacchae poster imageIt has been almost 2500 years since Euripides’ final tragedy, THE BACCHAE, was first performed, and the play remains as disturbingly relevant today as it did in ancient Athens. William Arrowsmith’s translation of Euripides masterpiece gives startlingly vivid form to the playwright’s presentation of the conflict between our aspiration for logical order and the unpredictable natural forces that overwhelm our best intentions. As we humans continue to seek an understanding of our place in the universe, Euripides reminds us of the dangers of unfounded and reckless hubris.
